I was having a rough week, and so was my friend Harvest in Portland.
We decided to meet for lunch in Bend, Oregon.
I hit the road Saturday morning, headed north.
It's a beautiful drive, through the desert, up into the mountains, and through the snow.
Stayed in Weed, California Saturday night.
Kind of gave me the munchies...
There's nothing like a long drive to clear your head.
And a drive through the mountains does the job twice as well.
Sunday morning at lunchtime I met Harvest in Bend.
We'd picked out a weird and cool place to get together.
It's called "The Funny Farm."
We were both feeling a little nuts, like we were getting pulled in all different directions by life.
The Funny Farm somehow seemed appropriate.
This was a place where bowling balls grow on trees.
Smaller ones grew in the garden.
We followed the Yellow Brick Road through the whole area.
It led past a rock pond and some other stuff.
Harvest and I played a game of enormous chess on the enormous chess board.
I thought I was so clever...
... But Harvest kicked my butt.
A representative from McDonald's was present...
As was someone from the anti-beef lobby.
It was a good trip, and it was good to see Harvest!
