That ship on the horizon is the BATTLESHIP TEXAS, the last of the world's fearsome DREADNAUGHTS.
She was commissioned in 1914, just in time to fight in World War One.
At the time, she was by far the most powerful weapon in the world.
She had a whopping ten 14-inch guns in 5 turrets, each firing shells that weighed up to 1500 pounds.
Don't mess with the Texas.
After the First World War, the Texas underwent a major refit.
She switched from coal-burning engines to oil, and they moved a bunch of the midsized guns around.
In 1927 she became the flagship of the entire American Fleet.
Fifteen long years passed. When World War Two began, the Texas was nearly a relic.
But she had heart and a fighting spirit, and the Navy wasn't about to give up on her.
They completely modernized her, installing all new radio and radar equipment.
They covered her decks with deadly anti-aircraft guns.
Then they sent her straight into battle.
The invasion of Morocco. Southern France. D-Day at Normandy. The Texas saw them all.
She was there for Iwo Jima and Okinawa, surviving artillery fire and swarms of kamikazi fighters.
At war's end, the ship and her crew were heroes, hardened sailors who'd seen war on both sides of the globe.
In 1946, with the war finally over, the Texas was mothballed.
Now a relic, the Navy planned to use her as a bombing target.
After more than three decades of withstanding the enemy, she was finally to be sunk - by friendly fire.
But you can't sink a ship called "Texas" without a fight.
Private citizens raised money and made the Texas America's first memorial battleship.
Now she resides at the San Jacinto Battleground near Houston, Texas, and is a National Historic Landmark.
